Values We Embrace

We use evidence based interventions that are grounded in scientific research, ensuring that the methods used have been proven effective and safe for helping autistic children build skills and overcome challenges.

We use reinforcement-based interventions that support learning in a motivating and affirming way. This fosters a positive learning environment where children feel encouraged to engage, communicate and explore, making it an effective, compassionate method for teaching and strengthening meaningful behaviors.

We gain assent from children.  This means that children voluntarily agree to participate in their treatment.  This is gauged by facial expression, active engagement and verbal behavior.  Gaining assent from a child is essential for creating a respectful, enjoyable, supportive environment where the child feels empowered and engaged.

We focus on skill building in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. We value gaining a child’s trust and respect and prioritize understanding over blind obedience. Compliance involves following instructions or meeting expectations, often without considering personal choice or engagement, while cooperation is a collaborative process where the individual willingly participates and actively engages.  

We focus on behaviors that are socially significant, examining the impact of the interventions on the child’s social environment, relationships and overall quality of life.  Importance can often be assigned to suppressing non-harmful, natural behaviors in autistic children simply to appear more “neurotypical.”  This “masking” can have serious emotional and mental health consequences. Burnout, isolation, depression, anxiety and  increased risk of suicide are all a concern for people who are constantly asked to suppress their authentic selves.  We support self-expression in neurodiversity without unnecessary restrictions.  This approach prioritizes the child’s needs and dignity, emphasizing their unique ways of interacting with the world.    We value promoting long-term well-being and mental health.
